North Ossetia-Alania (Цæгат Ирыстон-Алани in Ossetian, Северная Осетия-Ала́ния in Russian) is a 701 thousand people republic located in then the southwestern part of Russia, by the border with Georgia. It's surrounded by the republics of Ingushetia, Chechnya and Kabardino-Balkaria; and Stavropol Krai in Russia. The republic also shares border with Georgia and its de iure territory South Ossetia. The population has a mostly Russian Orthodox tradition. The official languages are Ossetian and Russian.
